Getting some time for yourself in the water is more than just an enjoyable pastime – it also provides a great low-impact workout and helps reduce stress. Whether you’re on a family holiday or looking to spend some quality time solo, Hong Kong’s many pools are the perfect place to take a dip, soak up the sun and relax.
There are a handful of rooftop pools in the 852 but none are quite as impressive as this one perched on the 42nd floor of Cordis Hotel. With the avenue of palm trees, umbrella-lined lounge chairs and stunning city views, the pool’s ambiance is reminiscent of a resort getaway. Just remember to get there early for the best vantage point!
The newest addition to the pool scene, this spectacular water park was completed in May and is definitely worth a visit. Not only does it offer a beautiful setting with the backdrop of Victoria Harbour but also features four waterslides, including two of the fastest in Hong Kong, and a series of whimsical water installations such as mushroom and tree-shaped fountains. The pool also has a small shop where you can purchase swimming costumes and floats.
This pool is a little bit of an out-of-the-way gem, but it’s worth the trip for its unique design and secluded location. Built on the site of a former military hospital, the Ma On Shan pool is shaped like a seashell with an open layout that allows for plenty of natural sunlight. On one side of the complex is a main pool, while the other features a few smaller training and teaching pools along with a toddler pool complete with some pretty cool water installations.
During the recent LCSD strike, this was one of the few pools that remained open for visitors. However, it still has to deal with a staff shortage and some facilities (such as the children’s pool) were shut down in order to divert resources. Luckily, all the other pools have reopened as normal and the crowded situation should calm down once summer arrives.
There are countless public swimming pools throughout the city but, with its stunning views, this rooftop pool is amongst the most popular ones. Its glass bottom and ceiling give the impression that you’re actually out in the ocean with the bright blue sky and sparkling sea below. This is one of those places where you’ll definitely want to bring a waterproof camera so you can snap some amazing shots of the vistas from this gorgeous pool.
