In a move to boost the number of local marathon challengers, title sponsor Standard Chartered has increased the prize money for this year’s race. Now, permanent residents who finish the men’s category in under three hours or women’s in less than 3:30 will receive an extra HK$10,000. The increase takes the total prize pool to a record-high $2 million.

The Hong Kong Film Awards (HKFA) are an annual awards ceremony for films produced or co-produced in Hong Kong. Established in 1993, the HKFA is managed by a committee composed of representatives from thirteen professional film bodies in the city and adjudicated by an independent group of judges. Winners are awarded gold, silver and bronze medals as well as a trophy. The HKFA is a key cultural event in the city.

CUHK assistant professor Moazzin has won the first Distinguished Teaching Award for his outstanding teaching performance in CUHK History Department and a general research fund grant from Hong Kong’s Research Grants Council. He has also received four CUHK Faculty of Arts Outstanding Teaching Awards and eleven CUHK courseware and teaching development grants.

Patrick Tse, 85, won best actor at this year’s Hong Kong Film Awards for his role as a hitman-turned-noodle maker in black comedy Time, making him the oldest actor to win the top prize. He is also the oldest first-time winner since the awards began in 1991.

HKJC has tightened security measures to ensure the fairness of the New Year Snowball draw, with employees from its security and customer service departments inspecting the entire process, from boxing to transport. The balls used in the drawing are also measured, weighed and tested on a regular basis. The same set of balls is not used for two consecutive draws.

US lawmakers have nominated the pro-democracy activists in Hong Kong for a Nobel peace prize, calling them a source of global inspiration against Beijing’s crackdown. The nine bipartisan legislators included Republicans Marco Rubio and Jim McGovern, both members of the congressional-executive commission on China which assesses human rights in the country.

A HK$10,000 scholarship is awarded annually to a student studying at the Department of History, CUHK. This scholarship is funded by a generous donation from the late Dr. John D Young. It is aimed at encouraging students to develop research on Hong Kong history, politics and society.

The HK$5 million prize for the best submission to the Hong Kong Design Competition 2023 is now open. Submissions must be innovative, practical and relevant to the Hong Kong community. The competition will be judged by a panel of industry experts from various sectors. Interested parties can find out more here. The deadline for submissions is June 30. The winning entry will be exhibited in the Design for Life exhibition at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Taipei from November 1 to December 31, 2019. The prize will also include an all-expenses paid trip to Singapore, courtesy of HSBC.
